1. Education and Get-Together
The Youth Centre is a place where the youth can go to get together to enjoy playing and learning together, and thus be less likely to get into trouble.
A focal person supports the children as a reliable tutor and counsellor in many ways.
The Center also provides learning materials for children to study on their own, especially if they have no means to attend school.
In addition volunteers would be more than welcomed to e.g. initiate workshops and offer assistance for the children’s´ homework.
2. Chance of raising HIV/AIDS awareness amongst youngsters:
There is the outstanding opportunity for the experienced
staff of the Paballong Centre, to address the youth,
which is about to enter their sexual active stage of life. In Lesotho and particula while probably exposing themselves to the risk of a HIV/Aids transmission, and also make them aware of sexual health issues.
3. Special opportunities as a non-formal education centre:
Teaching topics dealing with sexuality in a school's big mixed-gender class usually puts the teacher in a difficult position.
Lacking attention, seriousness and willingness to learn among the pupils are the encountered problems on those occasions.
Setting classes in school context, where pupils usually learn the curriculum by heart and not for the reason of making practical use of it, but to pass the next test, makes it even more difficult.
As a non-formal insitution where pupils go in their spare time, the Youth Centre could approach those issues in a fresh and more open way.
Funding and Financing
With great thanks to the German Embassy in Pretoria and the Paballong Trust Netherlands and its supporters, the funding for the construction and equipment of the Youth Centre and playground was raised.
To make it a lively and warm place further monetary or service donations are needed and welcomed.

Connection to the Day Care Centre
With the opening of the Dr Titi Mohapi Day Care Centre, Paballong now offers a place to go for up to 40 vulnerable children from the age of two years till they reach school-age. This place is not only meant to provide a warm, secure and joyful nest for the infants but also to teach them a very basic but practical curriculum.
A deliberated positive side-effect is that their older siblings are able to attend school because their younger sisters and brothers are taken care of and are so not in need for any other caretaking at those times of a day.
However, when the children start their school career these
vulnerable children still need care and support,
especially with the troublesome years of puberty ahead.
The Youth Centre would be such a place providing care and support, just like the Day Care Centre does.
